Future of Radio Is Downloadable
Published by Rudy De Waele February 16th, 2005 in 3G, Analysis, Announcements, Mobile Music, PodcastsRead this Wired News article on how MotorFM is determined to transform radio in Germany; it thinks it has the tools to do it: MP3 downloads and songs streamed directly to mobile phones.
“The first step has seen MotorFM, launched Feb. 1, abandon on-air commercials in favor of generating revenue from MP3 downloads and targeted sponsoring of its programming. The next step will be streaming audio directly to 3G cell phones and letting listeners pay for downloads by SMS text message.”
I believe the future of radio will be streamed/downloadable to cell-phones, I do not believe in the business model through SMS though. The first phone (PocketPC model exist allready) with wi-fi connection will neutralise this business model. Also podcasted and/or streamed radio to mobiles needs to be profiled - like last.fm does allready online, to have a real different added value.
