If your company needs creativity to stay ahead, then a new tried and tested method to help companies manage their creative process might be what you need.

Developed under the IST project CREATE, “We started our work analysing more than 100 creative techniques and methodologies, proposed by several experts and researchers,” explains Prof De Toni of University of Udine and the CREATE coordinator. “Once we had selected the most valuable techniques, we structured a comprehensive methodology consisting of five main phases that cover the whole creative process.”

“Our intention was to show managers and employees that creativity is not just an innate faculty, but can be stimulated by using specific techniques and that, by these techniques, the whole creative process can be more productively and easily managed. Yet creative techniques cannot come alone: organisations need to overcome their traditional top-down, either-or approach and create the internal conditions for a creative environment. The keyword for the future is the emergence of creativity from the bottom”.

The main results of the project, which will end in March 2005, will be made available though an interactive handbook on the CREATE website, that will contain a description of the theoretical and methodological project background, together with more than 200 cards that describe the most and the least famous creative techniques, and all the case studies produced by the project activities with the companies.
