It has been a while since I found anything worthwhile to write on lately but here’s an interesting one…

Some of you might have heard about Slingmedia and their recently launched Slingbox - watch and control your TV, anywhere. The tagline says it all… personally I’m not a fan of being able of accessing my TV content on my mobile, but I assume there are users that like this service, especially Americans seem to like the product and it’s features.

George Williams, part of the team who developed the mobile version, the SlingPlayer Mobile, send me a link yesterday to some interesting podcasts, and for me it’s clear there is a whole new take to the Slingbox, one I didn’t see before and that’s going to be (more) user-driven!

The first podcast “Video Goes Internet – The Future of What You Watch” is a panel discussion held at the Churchill Club on April 24, you can download the podcast and read a summary at ZDNet blog. I didn’t knew about this Churchill Club but what they produce is quality, look at this one:

The panellists included Rob Bennett, general manager, MSN Entertainment and Video Services at Microsoft; Jennifer Feikin, director of Google Video at Google; Blake Krikorian, founder & CEO of Sling Media; John Papanek, senior vice president and editorial director of ESPN New Media; and Ben White, vice president of Digital Media at MTV. Frank Rose, a contributed editor to Wired Magazine was the moderator.

Really interesting discussion I can recommend to anyone in web and mobile entertainment.

The other podcast is with Blake Krikorian, CEO of Slingmedia where he explains about top-down vs. user-driven content and other features they have been thinking about for the future of the Slingbox… It’s the software, stupid!

What I found interesting is the idea to be able to upload video content to my relatives or friends from anywhere so they could instantly watch that through the Slingbox on their TV wherever that may be, and that opens a lot of new perspectives :-)

Networks are not really ready for this now but it’s the way to go… With the Nokia N93 coming out soon, the technology is moving at such incredible pace, we’re not talking a couple of years anymore for this to go mass-market.
