Mobile Web in Africa 2010 is a leading mobile event taking place in Johannesburg, South Africa on 28th, 29th and 30th September. Overall the event is tackling how to ‘harness the potential of the internet and applications  on mobile devices’ and one of its main objectives is to boost the mobile ecosystem.

During the first day of the conference the organisers are running a Mobile Application Developer Competition which is called “The App-Factor” – it is being formally supported by BlackBerry, InMobi and GetJar, who are all providing prizes.  So if you’re a local entrepreneur or startup with an app, this is your chance to present your work to 200 of the leading individuals in the African mobile ecosystem that will attend the conference.

I’ll be speaking there on the future of mobile in Africa in a track together with my pal Russell Buckley. I plan my presentation to be an exploration into openness, entrepreneurial opportunities and the next wave of trends, including:

·         Comprehending the speed of innovation in mobile
·         The importance of openness in the mobile ecosystem
·         Opportunities in mobile for African entrepreneurs
·         Mobile Trends 2020 Africa (based on the Mobile Trends 2020 collaborative project I’ve curated earlier this year)

Check the complete agenda and list of speakers attending, it’s pretty impressive!

I’ll be following more mobile activities in Africa in the near future so feel free to contact me (sidebar on the right) if you have a startup, an application, a project or case study in mobile you’d like me to cover in my presentations. I’ll be reporting for sure about the conference and my experiences there. Stay tuned!
