Tomorrow morning I’m off to Vegas for the CTIA Wireless. Some intense days ahead, lots of people and companies to catch up with. Monday I’ll be at the Mobile Jam Session, another fully booked event organised by Caroline and me. Check the agenda and speakers here.
I’ll be checking out the Showstoppers event to check out some new US startups, the new stuff at Nokia, a Buzzd dinner, the MM2 Roundtable discussion, a couple of other dinners and many networking cocktails…. will definately try to catch the mobile girls at the GoMo News Party. You can check a complete CTIA Party List here by Eric Chan.
Looking forward to meet with the industry collegues and friends, the start-ups, the carriers / operators and VC’s, especially in the Mobile 2.0 area. Anyone who wants to catch up with me, send me a note or send me a direct message on Twitter.
Mobile Jam Session Las Vegas

After a very successful first Mobile Jam Session during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Caroline Lewko of the Wireless Industry Partnership (WIP) and myself are ‘jazzed’ about working together again to bring you the second Mobile Jam Session at the Las Vegas Convention Center – N255 on Monday, March 31, 2008 (9:00 am - 6:00 pm).
The event is free of charge for all participants, coffee breaks, lunch and networking cocktail included. We’re looking for passionate, exciting and talented developers. If you’d like to participate, let’s us know why you’d like to attend and add your name and suggested topic to the invitation list. Candidates who sign up for Mobile Jam Session before March 15 will receive a free CTIA pass!
What’s it all about…
- Infused with the spirit of the early days of Jazz, the Mobile Jam Session is a day to inspire new ideas and innovate solutions to existing challenges. The purpose is focused, but the agenda is improvised along the way.
- It all starts as we open up the mobile ecosystem and connect experienced and talented developers, with industry experts and decision makers. We all know this is often difficult at big conferences, but the Mobile Jam Session makes it possible. We propose an invitation and referral only to get the right mix of participants.
- Most importantly this event is driven by developers – what they want to hear, who they want to talk to, what they want to say. It’s no secret that the industry needs the emerging companies to lead with innovation, to leverage resources and to help change the game. With the right beat, let’s get ready to listen!
Speakers & Topics & Format
Topics are chosen ahead of time by the participants when they register. We match that to industry leaders and include developers as discussion leaders too, to get the right mix of big company expertise and hands –on experience.
The format includes a mix of developer only mixing; an interactive panel; and our unique “Improv” sessions where 5-6 discussion leaders facilitate small groups of participants.
See the agenda and pictures from the session in Barcelona. Jam on!
Essence Event at CTIA Wireless I.T.

I’m heading to San Francisco next week for the Mobile 2.0 and Web 2.0 Summit related events. One of THE events I’m looking forward, organised by friend Caroline Lewko from WIP Connector is the Essence Event on October 23.
Only 2 blocks away from Moscone Center to party, mingle with Mobilists and to network with rogue influencers; probably one of the most essential get togethers during CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment 2007.

CTIA Topic of Discussion
0 Comments Published by Rudy De Waele April 6th, 2007 in Social Media, Fun, Trends, Conversations, CTIAWithout having being present, to my great surprise, I apparently manage to be “a constant topic of discussion”, according Greg Clayman, currently managing the Mobile Group at MTV Networks:
Some of these conversations had a distinctly Mobile 2.0 flavor – and the ideas of folks like Rudy De Waele and Daniel Appelquist seemed to be a constant topic of discussion.
In an insightful CTIA recap, Greg continuous:
We know that openness leads to growth and that having common standards for developing, reporting, etc. can only drive mobile innovation further, but what next steps we need to take (and who is responsible for taking them) is still up for debate. At least there is a debate around these issues, and that’s a good thing.
It’s a pleasure to read this and to see the discussions moving from some insiders’ talk to the media industry floors, next time I have to be sure I can be present
Stay tuned… more action to come soon from Daniel and me and some other great folks!
MyStrands Launches Social Player
6 Comments Published by Rudy De Waele March 14th, 2007 in Mobile Apps, Mobile Music, Social Media, Mobile Lifestyle, 3G, web 2.0, Cool Devices, Announcements, Music, Mobile Search, Mobile Content, mobile 2.0, TrendsMyStrands just got its Social Player signed by Symbian yesterday for general release. It is a music player for mobile devices (Symbian Series 60, 3rd edition) with two main characteristics: it is a music discovery tool and a strong community builder. Watch the video demo here below and try it yourself, it’s great!
The player works over a 3G connection (if you can afford it!) and Wireless LAN, it gives you real-time recommendations of songs, you can stream clips of the recommended songs to your device, and learn more about them on MyStrands mobile website. The MyStrands Social Player helps you discover new people by telling you who else in the community is currently listening to the same song and view that person’s profile (unless it has been set as private). Check what I’m listening to here.
It is probably the most advanced music and community mobile app around - I haven’t seen anything like it, a real social community and music discovery tool, you can even build playlists on the go and tag your music, dig?
Check out all details at MyStrands blog.
